McCain, KGB, Sellouts… and More Money than God

John McCain is famous, among other things, when talking about foreign relations with Russia for looking into Putin’s eyes and seeing only “K… G… B…”

So why is he asking the Russian envoy for money?

McCain is scared shitless that his domestic fundraising efforts are falling short…

Which makes sense.

Obama, after all, has raised over $600 million… and though he’d love to share the wealth, McCain ain’t exactly his cup o’ tea.

I guess McCain’s principles are only a consideration when he’s ahead of the game.

When he’s getting his ass kicked, however, all bets are off.

Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin and others received standard mail-outs asking them to help “stop the Democrats from seizing control of Washington”, the BBC said.

A spokesman for the McCain campaign blamed the letters on “a computer error”.

The mistake will embarrass Mr McCain, who has been a strong critic of Russia’s human rights record and its military action in Georgia.

Brian Rogers, a spokesman for the McCain campaign, told the BBC the campaign had not received any complaints from the mission and that “it sounds like they’re having a little fun at our expense”.

“It’s just an error,” he said.

US presidential candidates are banned from accepting foreign donations.

The letter has a return form which carries the words: “I am proud to stand with our Republican candidates as the Obama Democrats and their wealthy liberal backers focus their attacks squarely on defeating Republicans and gaining control of our government.

“I want to do all I can to help stop the Democrats from seizing control of Washington and implementing their radically liberal policy for our nation.”

Ruslan Bakhtin, a spokesman for Russia’s UN mission, told the BBC: “It’s evident that [the letter] was a mistake. It happens.”

But he also stressed: “Russian authorities are in no way engaged in funding political campaigns or political activities abroad.”
